is a case being heard by the High Court of Lilongwe in the capital of Malawi where a Rwandan woman GIRAMATA Gintiye is being investigated for her role in the death of her ex-husband HABIMANA EMILE. Since this case was postponed last year and has been postponed indefinitely, the Step newspaper has continued to ask the court’s secretariat when the case will resume, they replied that it is next year, which is currently 2025, and they told the Step newspaper that the dates will be announced, unexpectedly on the 14th of Zukwa 1, 2025, the case was resumed in secret because only the family members of the deceased EMILE knew that the case had started, only the source of the Step newspaper’s news was in court and is following the progress of the case, which we are going to share with you soon.
Today, Tuesday, January 14, 2025, the trial of the Prosecutor against Giramata and Rafiki for the murder of Emile continued at the Lilongwe High Court, which hears criminal cases. Witness Mukandawiri Abel, who worked at KANENGO Police Station as a CID officer, continued to give testimony as he began at the end of last year on November 21. Mukandawiri said that Emile did not die in the accident but was killed. He said that the accident they are talking about is a fabrication.
He added that the medical examiner’s report confirms this and that it was based on it that he arrested Giramata and Rafiki. After Mukandawiri gave his testimony, Judge Bruno said that the prosecution had completed its evidence. The judge said that the defense of Giramata and Rafiki were given seven days to submit their final submissions, and the prosecution has 14 days, after which the defense of the accused can respond within three days. After these final submissions, the judge will decide whether there is strong evidence that requires the defense to explain and the trial to continue or if he finds no evidence, he will order that the trial end there and the accused be released. The accused were returned to prison and brought back to hear the judge’s conclusions on a date to be announced
As promised by the Step newspaper, we will continue to follow this case until it is concluded.
